The Next Big Thing? Cooking with Insects
What do you have planned for dinner? Could it be an Italian favorite like spaghetti and meatballs? Maybe Chinese stir fry? If you are cooking some bugs, I’d love to know all about it. The United Nations is urging people to eat insects for nutrition, the environment and weight loss. I’ll admit that I’ve never intentionally eaten a bug or even cooked one. Now, I’m thinking about cooking up a little something. This recipe is from American Way: American Airlines Magazine. According to the author, it “Serves six if you can find six”.
About 1000 grasshoppers (the younger the better)
1/2 cup chili sauce
pinch of salt
1 cup guacamole
- Soak the grasshoppers in clean water for 24 hours.
- Boil them, then let dry.
- Fry in a pan with garlic, onion, salt and lemon.
- Roll up in tortillas with chili sauce and guacamole.
