Look Out for Carpenter Ants

Long Island homeowner emailed “living in my home for 3 years. only had issues with occasional spider and jumping cricket until recently when in past 6 weeks we began noticing carpenter ants on 1st and 2nd floor of our house.”

What Carpenter Ants Look Like

These big black ants are shaped differently from termites. They actually have a waist to carry their carpenter tool belt!

What Carpenter Ants Do

When outside, carpenter ants make tunnels in trees. Inside your home, they will tunnel through wood and foam insulation.  Wood and foam aren’t food for these ants. They damage wood to make a nest. You might see something that looks like sawdust around their nests.

If you’ve seen carpenter ants in your home and want to get rid of them, even Wiki-How will tell you to hire an exterminator.
