How to Prevent Fleas in your House

Fleas look for warm blooded bodies to hop onto and feed off of. They have been known to feed off of both pets and humans. You can barely see these tiny insects because fleas are less than 1/4th of an inch in size. If you do spot one, they have a dark brown color.  When fleas enter a house, they sometimes remain undetected for an extended period of time. Most of the time, people start to feel itchy or notice their pet scratching.  Fleas are able to easily maneuver their way through body hairs due to their narrow body size and lack of wings.

How to Prevent Fleas in your House

Fleas have been documented to carry many different diseases over the past 500 years, giving you all the more reason to take preventative steps to avoid having fleas in your home. Vacuuming often is actually a good way to draw the fleas out.  And many products are available for your pet. Treatment should be discussed with the pet’s veterinarian. Check your pet for fleas frequently.  Additional prevention tips include keeping your yard clean of garbage and pet droppings.

Beginning in late August, Long Island homeowners begin to notice these tiny bugs in their homes. When an infestation occurs in your home, a professional is needed to take care of the problem. Contact us if there’s a flea infestation in your home.
