Oriental Cockroach
In males, the wings of the Oriental Cockroach cover 75% of the abdomen, but the females have small wing pads. They are born a light color and grow darker with each molt.
Size: 1 to 1 ¼ inch long
Color: Red brown to black
Activity/Behavior: Because of their inability to climb, these cockroaches are often found in planters, leaf litter, and other debris. They feed on starchy foods and various other items, trash included.
Where They Live: Though they are not common pests in most homes, these cockroaches can be found in sewers and commercial facilities (groceries, prisons, restaurants, hospitals, office and apartment buildings). Also, they can be found in damp/secluded places (crawl spaces, basements, water meter boxes, and drains). They are often found in bathtubs and sinks because they lack small pads on their legs giving them the ability to climb.
Tips for Control: Because they feed on organic matter, it’s important to dispose of any old food. Also, keep cracks and crevices sealed, especially leading to dark and damp places.
How Suburban Exterminating Can Help: Control of oriental cockroaches takes persistence and experience. An infestation sometimes can be controlled using over-the-counter products, but cockroaches often need to be treated directly. Too much bait may repel the pest, but a professional can place down the right amount, help you properly survey the property to get rid of cockroaches.
Suburban Exterminating follows a strict set of guidelines to ensure your health and safety. We use only products which are registered with the EPA. Our technicians are registered and licensed with NY State. Our technicians participate in a continuing education program.
