Fungus Gnats

The extremely small Fungus Gnat has colored wings and a dark body. Fungus Gnats are found near liquid garbage. They are part of the super family Mycetophiloidea.

Size: 1/32 to 7/16 of an inch long
Color: Black, brown, or yellowish Fungus Gnats

Activity/Behavior: The gnat eggs are laid directly on the food. They’re usually found growing in the soil and eating fungi.

Where They Live: They can be found near rotting wood, animal waste, in dark places, over-watered plants and their saucers, and atriums because they are hosts for moist decaying material.

Tips for Control: Throwing out or cleaning the area where the fungus gnats are found will significantly help because it will remove their food supply. Check the soil of potted plants, wet crawl spaces, or dirty basements. Cut back on watering and fertilizing outdoors.

How Suburban Exterminating Can Help:  A trained pest control professional can help you get rid of gnats. Insecticides are rarely warranted for the control of fungus gnats. A professional can suggest and execute the right course of action, rather than buying over-the-counter products that are unnecessary and unhealthy.
