Fruit Flies
Fruit Flies can be seen laying eggs around old food. They are recognizable by their red eyes and tan and black bodies. Their wings have easily visible veins on them, resembling breaks.
Size: 1/8 of an inch long
Color: Dull yellow-brown to dark brown
Activity/Behavior: Fruit flies lay their eggs on old fruits or vegetables. Then, they tend to hover around that area or gravitate towards the light.
Where They Live: Fruit flies are found hovering and laying eggs around over-ripe fruits, fermenting liquid, and rotting vegetables. New adults are also attracted to light.
Tips for Control: Throwing away any old fruit or other foods should eliminate the bugs. Also, keep the bottom of trash and recycling bins clean because liquid tends to build up there.
How Suburban Exterminating Can Help: Control of fruit flies takes persistence and experience. Flies are resilient creatures which feed on human food, so it’s difficult to keep them away. An infestation sometimes can be controlled using over-the-counter products. A trained pest control professional can help you get rid of your fly problem.
