Drain/Moth Fly

Drain Flies and Moth Flies are of great economic and medical importance to humans, especially concerning diseases. They are in the order Diptera. This means two wings.

Size: 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch long
Color: Yellowish, brownish-gray, or blackishDrain / Moth Fly

Activity/Behavior: The baby flies eat algae, fungi, bacteria, and sludge (basically, your garbage/trash). Flies can become an annoyance or pest when they build up in drains, dirty garbage containers, and septic plants/sewage areas.

Where They Live: Adult flies are more active at night. They are seen flying around near the garbage or the breeding site. During the day, they sit inside on vertical surfaces (doors, windows, cabinets) and in protected areas outside (inside containers or shade).

Tips for Control: Simple elimination of the decaying organic matter (throwing out the trash/rotting food) where they flies are breeding will eliminate the fly problem. If the flies are in the drains, try hot water and bleach.
