Casemaking Clothes Moth
Before the Casemaking Clothes Moth becomes an adult, the larvae are small caterpillars (3/8 of an inch long) that live within a small portable, silken case. Although the males are active fliers, the females fly only short distances.
Size: 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch long
Color: Buff to gold with a brown tinge
Activity/Behavior: Only the larvae or caterpillars eat. Casemaking clothes moths shun light. They prefer to eat animal products over plant products. This moth likes to eat wools in rugs, clothes, bedding, feathers, felts, skins, spices, drugs, furs, taxidermy mounts, and stored tobacco.
Where They Live: These moths are common in southern states.
Tips for Control: Periodically clean areas of a home that may harbor moths. Those areas include under furniture, along baseboards in closets and vents. Also, clean clothing before storing it in an airtight container.
How Suburban Exterminating Can Help: Control of casemaking clothes moths takes persistence and experience. An infestation can sometimes be controlled using over-the-counter products, but they are rarely capable of reaching everywhere. They are also never successful at killing the larvae. Sometimes fumigation is needed, and a trained pest control professional can help you get rid of moths.
Suburban Exterminating follows a strict set of guidelines to ensure your health and safety. We use only products which are registered with the EPA. Our technicians are registered and licensed with NY State. Our technicians participate in a continuing education program.
