Brown-Banded Cockroaches

Brown-Banded Cockroaches

Unlike the German cockroach, Brown-Banded Cockroaches have far less dependence on water sources being close to the nesting sites. This cockroach will nest in all areas of a structure. This cockroach is rarely seen on Long Island.

Size: 1/2 of an inch long
Color: Light brown to brown (with two light, yellow-brown bands running across their bodies)

Activity/Behavior: Brown-banded cockroaches like to spend much of its time resting in cracks and voids. Most activity occurs at night. That’s when it feels safe to move about in search of food and water.

Where They Live: Brown-banded cockroaches prefer a warmer and drier environment than do German cockroaches. They are not so common in houses. They can be found throughout structures, wall hangings, and in closets, furniture, appliances, computers, and telephones.

Tips for Control: This cockroach requires intensive treatments to all areas of residence.

How Suburban Exterminating Can Help:  Brown-banded cockroaches are one of the most difficult kinds of cockroaches to control (along with the German cockroach). An infestation sometimes can be controlled using over-the-counter products, but cockroaches often need to be treated directly and using a variety of tools (baits, powders, regulators, traps, etc.). Too much bait may repel the pest, but a professional can place down the right amount, help you properly survey the property to get rid of cockroaches.
