Bird Mites Exterminator

Bird Mites

Bird mites feed on living organisms and are attracted to mammals. They are aggressive and bite when their food source is gone or when the young birds leave the nest. They multiply quickly.

Size: 1/32 of an inch long
Color: Transparent

Activity/Behavior: Mites readily bite humans and can cause a skin rash. The chicken mite is the most common mite found on sparrows, starlings, and pigeons. The chicken bird mites are intermittent nocturnal feeders. The northern fowl mite is a common parasite on sparrows, starlings, and pigeons.

Where They Live:
The chicken mites do not remain on the host bird. During the day, chicken mites are found in cracks, crevices, and/or the nest. They overwinter in bird nests and migrate out of the nest if it is empty. Tropical fowl mites are very similar to the northern fowl mite. They are usually found in sparrow’s nests.

Tips for Control:
Bird activity inside or on the building must be prevented.

How Suburban Exterminating Can Help:
Control of bird mites takes persistence and experience. Bird mite control needs to be specific to the species and location of the nest (a difficult thing to find, in many cases). Though bird mites need a bird blood meal to reproduce (rather than a human), it’s still important to find and get rid of all the bird mites in the house. A trained pest control professional can help you get rid of mites.
